Chi Kung

Chi Kung (Energy Work) is a system of exercise that improves health and emotional well being. Through a holistic practice of slow callisthenic body movements, synchronized relaxed deep breathing, and mind focusing meditation, the student learns to unify the energy of their body and mind. These exercises are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and have been proven through modern research to be an effective and safe form of therapeutic exercise.

For any exercise method to be beneficial, there needs to be consistency. These exercises are easy to learn, require no equipment, a minimum of space, and can easily fit into any busy lifestyle. They can also be adapted to address various physical limitations. Slow and gentle for seniors. Fast and robust for the young.

Static and Dynamic meditation to improve the mind body connection
Meditation and movement has been shown to help reduce daily stress due to anxiety. Through relaxed practices a student learns to stay aware of the present moment, improve their concentration skills by mindfully directing their body, and deal in a constructive manner with the endless thoughts and feelings that arise in their mind.

Breathing to improve lung function and massage internal organs

The internal organs are stimulated by coordinating the body movements with the cycle of the breath. The opening and closing action of the body created by full respirations causes an internal massaging effect on the organs and improves their function. Circulation is improved by learning to completely fill and empty the lungs in a safe and correct manner. This leads to a larger lung capacity and better oxygen / carbon exchange to the blood.

Therapeutic movements
Through a detailed study of body mechanics and learning the safe and correct way to optimize usage of the body, students improve coordination, balance, and range of motion.
